Lily (Lilium spp.) — one of the world's most beloved cut flowers — produces large, elegant, often fragrant flowers on tall stems and is available in an extraordinary range of types suited to different Indian climates. Asiatic Lilies (the most widely grown in India) are unscented but produce spectacular blooms in vivid colors — red, orange, yellow, pink and white — while Oriental Lilies offer the most intense fragrance and largest flowers. India grows lilies commercially in Himachal Pradesh, Jammu, Uttarakhand and the Nilgiris. For home gardeners, lily bulbs planted in the right season produce one of the most rewarding and impressive flowering displays possible in Indian gardens.

💧 Lily Care — India Specific
- CRITICAL — Lily is FATAL to cats: All parts of true Lilium species (Asiatic, Oriental, Tiger, Easter Lily) cause acute kidney failure in cats even in tiny amounts — licking pollen from fur is enough. If you have cats — do not grow lilies. If a cat contacts lily — emergency veterinary care immediately. This is the most important lily safety fact.
- "Cool head, warm feet": Classic lily growing wisdom — lilies prefer their flower stems in sun but their roots cool and shaded. Mulch heavily around the base or plant low-growing plants around lily stems to shade the soil while allowing the lily stems to grow into full sun.
- Remove pollen stamens for cut flowers: Oriental Lily pollen stains everything it touches with permanent orange-yellow marks. Remove stamens (pollen-bearing anthers) as soon as flowers open — before pollen is released. Use gloves or tissue — pollen on fingers transfers to clothing, furniture and walls.
