Click "Add Plant" to create your first plant profile — enter name, Hindi name, emoji, location (Indoor/Balcony/Terrace/Garden/Farm) and start date. Then add journal entries for that plant — each entry can include a photo (auto-compressed), health status (Excellent/Good/Fair/Poor/Critical), height measurement, milestone tag (First sprout, First bloom, Repotted etc.) and detailed notes. View all entries in Timeline or Grid view. All data saves automatically in your browser — 100% private, offline, no account needed.

All data saves in your browser's localStorage — it is completely private and never sent to any server. However, if you clear your browser data, cookies or site data, the journal will be deleted. To prevent data loss, use the Export button to download a JSON backup file before clearing your browser. Use the Import button to restore from any previously exported file. We strongly recommend exporting a backup every few weeks. The data is yours — we never see or access it.

Tap the photo area in the Add Entry screen to select a photo from your gallery or take a new one with your camera. Photos are automatically compressed to JPEG format at 800px maximum dimension and 82% quality — keeping file size small while maintaining visual quality. The compressed photo is stored in your browser's localStorage as base64 data. Each entry can have one photo. You can remove a photo by clicking "Remove photo" before saving the entry.

Five health levels: 🌟 Excellent — plant is thriving, lush growth, vibrant color. 💚 Good — plant is healthy, normal growth. 🟡 Fair — some issues noticed but plant is stable, may need attention. 🔴 Poor — plant is struggling, significant issues, needs immediate care. ☠️ Critical — plant is in serious danger, may not recover without urgent action. The timeline view shows colored dots for each health level, and the Critical level blinks to draw attention. Tracking health over time helps you spot patterns and early warning signs.

Timeline View shows entries as a vertical chronological list with health-colored dots on the left, entry date, health badge, milestone tag, height, thumbnail photo and truncated notes. Clicking any entry opens the full detail view. Grid View shows entries as photo cards in a masonry grid — great for plants with many photos as it gives a visual overview of growth over time. Toggle between views using the Timeline/Grid button. Both views sort entries with newest first.

Click the Export button to download your complete journal as a dated JSON file (e.g. plant-journal-2026-05-02.json). This file contains all your plants and all entries including photos. To restore or transfer to another device, click Import and select your saved JSON file. Important: exporting and importing will replace your current data — always export your current data before importing a file. Store your backup files in Google Drive or WhatsApp to yourself for safekeeping.
