  • Light determines color intensity: Green aglaonema varieties tolerate genuinely low light. Red and pink varieties need medium to bright indirect light to maintain their vivid colors — in low light they revert toward green. This is the main care difference between varieties.
  • Cold sensitivity — important for Indian winters: Aglaonema is very sensitive to cold below 10°C and cold drafts. In North India winters — move away from cold windows and AC units. Cold exposure causes yellow leaves and browning. South India year-round safe.
  • Self-cleaning plant: Aglaonema naturally sheds its lower leaves as it grows taller — this is completely normal. Remove yellowed lower leaves cleanly. The plant develops a natural stem as it matures — can be propagated by cutting the stem.

❓ Frequently Asked Questions

Insufficient light — red and pink aglaonema varieties need medium to bright indirect light to maintain color. In low light the plant conserves energy by reducing red pigment production. Move to brighter indirect position — new leaves will show red/pink coloration. Already-faded leaves won't change but new growth will be colorful.
Three easy methods: (1) Stem cuttings — mature stem ka 10-15 cm section, lower leaves remove, water ya moist mix mein roots in 3-4 weeks. (2) Division — clump ko repotting pe carefully divide karein. (3) Basal offshoots — base se nikalne wale shoots separate karein with roots. Best season: March-August. All methods highly reliable for aglaonema.
Leaf curling causes: (1) Cold draft or cold temperatures — most common. Move away from AC vents and cold windows. (2) Underwatering — water immediately. (3) Root bound — roots have no space. Repot to larger container. (4) Pest damage (spider mites in dry conditions) — check undersides. Curling combined with yellowing = cold damage — improve temperature and reduce drafts.
